The Touch that Tranforms

The devotion she shares this month is a prophetic word that will stir your hunger for more of Him, and open your eyes to just how much of Him we can share with the world around us.

There will be a people in these coming days whose insatiable hunger for God will cause them to engage with His heart like never before. They will not be satisfied with a simple touch from God. They will desire to become that touch. Their passion will lead them into a pursuit fueled and empowered by grace that will cause them to be both touched and changed. His glory will radiate from them and His fruit will be evident. They will manifest gifts and callings that they never dreamed possible. There is a touch from God that will transform His people, and then through His people … the world.

Touched and transformed

When God touches you, you have the potential to become what He touched you with. For example, if He touches you with His love, you can become love. Love can radiate from you to the world around you. All your decisions can be filled with love ... bathed in love. I remember the night I was born again when what felt like liquid love touched me, filled me and transformed me. I was never the same again as Jesus touched my life with the very essence of His being. Following that life-changing encounter, I emanated love where I had previously been bound by selfishness, fear, and shame. Everyone around me noticed the difference. I had been changed by what had touched me. I was becoming like Jesus – I was becoming the love that touched me.

More than just a touch for the moment

Oftentimes in the Glory School, we will be visited by the glorious presence of His love, peace, or angelic presence. It is glorious, but we can do much more than simply receive that touch for the moment. Many walk away from a few days in the Glory School unchanged because they enjoyed the moment of the Spirit resting upon them but failed to “digest” the encounter in order to make it resident within. We have the God-given potential to receive His touch as a resident, long-term empowerment that we can activate with intentionality. Often we will receive a blessing from the Lord and enjoy it, acknowledge it, and thank Him for it. That is all good and appropriate, but there is further invitation from Him to have that moment of encounter established in our lives. It is wonderful to be touched by the Lord’s presence, but it is even greater to be changed by it.

Jacob is a great example for us to examine. He had been touched by the revelation that he was a recipient of the covenant blessing that came through his grandfather, Abraham. His brother Esau had the same revelation and yet Esau did not let that revelation change him. In fact, he exchanged it for a simple meal. Later, we see Jacob wrestling with the Lord’s representative (perhaps Jesus Himself). He said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me” (Genesis 32:26). He was intentionally wrestling for the establishment of the covenant blessing. Following that encounter, he was blessed and his name was changed from Jacob (Supplanter) to Israel (Prince of God). He was touched, but also changed.

Take hold of every encounter

When God’s presence touches you, take hold of it. Don’t let it go. Ask for the encounter to go deep. Meditate on it. I have a friend who was very hungry for God and years ago when he was learning to press in to the Lord, he would worship and soak until the Lord’s presence would manifest. He loved the touch of the presence. He acknowledged it and enjoyed the touch. After a while the presence would wane but he would cry out and say, “No, come back! I am the hungriest man on the face of the earth.” He would press in until he received another level of presence. During these deeper levels of encounters, the Lord revealed to him his potential as a healing evangelist. He would lay hold of what was revealed in the depth of his being and then meditate on it and activate it. He became a fruitful healing evangelist. He was touched and changed.

Pressing in for more

In the parable of the sower and the seed, the disciples had sat under Jesus’ wisdom as He delivered the sermon. I can only imagine the “felt anointing” that was present when Jesus ministered. I am sure there would have been many that simply loved being in His presence as He ministered the Word. The disciples would have also enjoyed His touch in this way. But we see that they pressed in for more. They wanted to go deeper. They wanted more than just the touch. As a result, they began asking Jesus for further input. He responded, “To you has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God, but those who are outside get everything in parables” (Mark 4:11). He was basically saying that those who press in to Him will receive deeper Kingdom encounters – encounters that transform.

The next time you are touched by God, enjoy the touch but invite it to go deeper and bring change and transformation. Take hold of it like Jacob did, and seek for deeper revelation like the disciples did. There will be a generation who are not only touched by the Lord’s presence but who are changed into His image and likeness. This prophetic invitation has your name on it.
